VIDEO - CI golf legends to clash as Eggo and Gray meet in quarters

THE clock will be turned back years at La Grande Mare tonight as two of the greats of CI golf clash head-on in the last eight of the Ravenscroft Guernsey Open Matchplay.

Bobby Eggo and Trevor Gray have 17 island titles between them and are soon to become teammates in the Hampshire Seniors team, but long friendships will be put aside in the quarter-finals this evening after they came through their last 16 ties against Arthur Evans and Danny Blondel respectively.

The other Jerseyman in the draw, newly-anointed CI champion Jason Stokes, is also through to the quarter-final after edging past Sean Mills in a high-quality encounter.

There were easier successes for No. 2 seed Alan Mew from Stoneham and new Guernsey title-holder Steve Mahy against Daniel Griggs and Jeremy Nicolle respectively.

The comeback of the night came from Royal Guernsey pro Andy Myers, who rolled in an eagle putt from off the green at the last to complete a storming comeback against Mick Marley.
