Rick Hamilton has 25 years as a professional golf course manager and for the past two years has been in action as consultant agronomist at courses in China. He was their tournament director of agronomy responsible for all preparations for the 2012 World Golf Championship HSBC Champions tournament at Mission Hills.

Before that he performed similar roles on the PGA Tour of America.

His CV is long and impressive, much of it in China and Hong Kong, where he landscaped the Disneyland Theme Park in Hong Kong.

Prior to that he worked in Western Australia, having been a greenkeeper at the Royal Perth.

You could say, not bad for someone educated at La Mare de Carteret Secondary who became a mechanic and an operational firefighter with the Guernsey Fire Service before heading out on his worldwide travels.

John Dent, the new director of golf at La Grande Mare, is excited about the appointment and sees it as another significant step for the course, which is due to see major improvements in the coming years.

‘Rick will work as course manager above Martyn Savident, our greenkeeper, which will allow me to concentrate on the business and coaching,’ said Dent, who arrived at the Vazon course early in the year.
