Scott ‘buzzing’– awaits what’s next at Bristol City
ALEX SCOTT’S ‘buzzing’.
That was how Noel Scott, his father, described the mood of his son after the 17-year-old won a place on the subs bench for Bristol City’s Championship game at Swansea at the weekend.
Scott, who is not 18 until late August, is now hoping to win a spot in the Robins’ match-day squad for the home game against Bournemouth tomorrow night, although there is every chance he will be among the club’s U23s for their game at Colchester United today.
‘He has been on cloud nine,’ said Scott snr, who had been due to head to the UK to watch his son in action when the current lockdown was called. It is now more than a year since the roofer saw Alex play live and he is obviously itching to do so.
Scott snr said he was aware that Alex might be named in the squad for the Swansea game after it was revealed to him he had trained with the first-team last week. But with Bristol City naming 22 for the short trip to Swansea, it seems, the youngster was not sure whether he would make the actual squad and did not expect to get game time, which is just how it panned out. The Robins came from a goal down to beat the Swans 3-1.
It is now just over a year since Scott moved to the UK after coming through the St Martin’s and GFC ranks.
All the time he has been living with a host family, ‘really nice people,’ said the player’s father.
Meanwhile former Island captain Sam Cochrane has come out against any idea of a September Muratti ahead of the scheduled 2022 game in Guernsey.
Responding to the latest Inside Track column and Jersey’s hopes of staging the delayed 2021 game at the start of the new campaign, Cochrane responded on Twitter: ‘Muratti football should always be the closing game of the season, anything less devalues the competition’.
He added: ‘As a player, the Muratti holds a meaning and feeling like no other. It should never clash with club football so it’s significance always remains top priority.’
