Saints came into the fixture unbeaten in the 2021-22 season and have a 15-point lead at the top of the league, but the GFA representative’s fought back after going behind twice to come out as 4-2 victors.

Danny Hale opened the scoring for St Martin’s from the penalty spot before Jamie Smith levelled the game up in the 14th minute.

Ollie Smith once again got on the scoresheet for Meakin’s side minutes later to reinstate Saints’ lead, before Finley Du Port scored against his home club five minutes before the break.

Brandon Wallace gave the U18s the lead for the first time in the game on the hour mark before a Keene Domaille wonder goal saw the GFA representatives home.

The Island juniors beat Vale Recreation 6-2 in their Stranger opener and claimed top spot in the group after this win.

‘It was a great result, especially considering Saints’ recent form,’ said coach Angus Mackay.

‘It was quite an entertaining game, lots of chances for both teams, but we won the game, we’re through to the semi-finals so overall really positive.

‘We played well all the way through from one to 11.

‘Luke Elmy made a couple of very important saves, especially towards the end of the first half when we were 2-1 behind.

‘The guys have played very well as a team, especially considering the fact we have only had two games together, they have understood the system and link together really well.

‘It all depends now on who we have fit and available and who we’re up against in the semi-final, but I don’t see any reason why we can’t win it.’

Sylvans also booked their spot in the semi-final of the Stranger as they overcame Manzur in Group C’s deciding game.

Martyn De Garis’ side took the lead at KGV as captain-on-the-day Harvey Lihou struck before former Sylvans keeper Seb Sheppard made a string of saves to keep Manzur in the game.

Mark Romeril’s men took advantage of the young keeper’s heroics and equalised on the stroke of half-time, before Euan Melrose and Tiago Rodrigues struck to see Sylvans home in the second half.

‘We played some really good football, created a lot of chances and it was a good performance from everyone,’ said de Garis.

‘I thought everybody stood out, I couldn’t pick out any individuals because everyone played really, really well.

‘We’re looking forward to seeing who we play in the semi-final now. We want to win the cup and we’re in a good position.

‘The under-18’s have been playing absolutely amazing, they’ll be really tough for everyone which they proved against St Martin’s who haven’t really lost to anyone.’

‘Rovers are finding some form, too, they are playing well at the moment so the semis are going to be tough.’
