Acey and Ap Sion to join Scott at Bristol City
BEN ACEY’S move to Bristol City has been confirmed – and another Guernsey teenager has signed with the Robins, too.
Tim Ap Sion will also be following in the footsteps of Alex Scott having enjoyed a successful trial last month and the 16-year-old has signed a two-year scholarship deal to join up with the under-18s.
Acey, who has penned a one-year professional deal after Bristol City made their interest known after he impressed on trial in January, will go into their under-23 squad.
‘Tim burst onto the scene on that night when he scored on his debut [against Chipstead],’ said Guernsey FC manager Tony Vance, who recommended the young Sylvans forward to Bristol City.
‘He has been training with us for most of the season since he turned 16 and also playing in the Priaulx League for Sylvans since then.
‘We can’t claim much of the credit, but it was obvious he had real potential and as we got into our fixture pile-up, I thought he deserved a chance and felt he could make an impact – he made an bigger impact than I thought he could with that goal and it was then I had a conversation with Geraint [Ap Sion, Tim’s father] about the possibility of Bristol City having a look at him.’
Within a few days he was there for a week-long trial and did enough to impress the Bristol City academy coaches.
City Academy Director Brian Tinnion said: 'We’re really pleased that Ben and Tim are joining us after successful trials.
'The relationship with Guernsey football is now well-established – thanks to Tony Vance for his part in that – and we are looking forward to taking on the development and care of these young players.'
