Rec look for instant response to defeat

VALE REC boss Mark Romeril has revealed that his side have been struggling with an ever-growing injury list during the start of the new season.

In their opening FNB Priaulx League game, Rec were beaten 4-1 by neighbours North, who have started the season off well, having won previous Grand Fort Road derbies in the Rawlinson and Martinez cups.

‘We weren’t great, but it was not totally unexpected. We have been having problems with player availability and injuries,’ said Romeril.

‘I do think North played very well and it was a deserved win.’

Rec have been without forwards Marlon Jardim and Will Fazakerley, who were both instrumental in the team's success last season, but Romeril said that Jardim would be available for tonight’s game against Rangers.

‘We have been without Marlon and Faz which has been hard,’ he said.

‘We have a few challenges to overcome.’

Sam Le Huray, Damien Larkin and Jacob Masterton-Pipet are among the players at Rec who are currently injured.

‘The list goes on really,’ said Romeril.

Vale Rec will face Rangers tonight at the Corbet Field. The two teams were meant to meet in the opening weekend of the season, but a waterlogged pitch postponed their game.

‘We have two games this week – we play Bels on Saturday – so it is a good opportunity for us to try and get some points and hopefully make things look a bit better for us,’ said Romeril.

Vale Rec against Rangers kicks-off at 7.30pm today at the Corbet Field.
