The women’s race saw a repeat of last year’s podium with Whitty taking a convincing victory in 1-21-44, ahead of runner-up Ulrike Maisch (1-24-44) and third-placed Vanessa King (1-29-39).
Conditions were gusty, but much better than the weather forecasts earlier in the week had predicted with more than 500 runners crossing the finish line.
Guernsey Athletics thanked all the volunteers, as well as St John Guernsey, Guernsey Civil Protection and the Police, all of whom gave up their time to keep the field safe as well as the authorities and emergency services who worked with them swiftly to make sure the race could take place.
