Led by The Drawing Room, in partnership with Rihoy & Son, Build for Good is a new, not-for-profit initiative offering design and construction expertise to local charitable organisations.

Its maiden project was transforming GCS’s newly-acquired premises in St Peter Port into a welcoming environment for clients and counsellors.

‘For our first project we were looking for someone somewhere where we could make a difference,’ said The Drawing Room director Rachel Rogers.

‘This was that perfect opportunity. It’s been a privilege to see it go from concept to completion.

'We’ve worked closely with GCS to ensure the space is both professional and calming – somewhere that feels safe for anyone seeking support.’

GCS offers professional counselling to those in need, regardless of their ability to pay. With about a dozen counsellors and a growing number of clients – the upgraded facility is the charity’s first centre, with services previously conducted at various community spaces, churches and at counsellors’ own facilities.

Its new home includes three counselling rooms, a waiting area and an office – each filled with signs of life, soothing colours and modern touches.

The Drawing Room completed the design, worth £10,000 and Rihoy & Son undertook the construction work, worth £30,000.

They said it was a community effort and wished to thank the significant number of local suppliers who supported the pioneer project with donations.

This included plumbing, heating and outdoor tiling as well as furniture, decor and plants.

‘It shows what can be done when local organisations come together with a shared goal,’ said Dan Taylor, managing director of Rihoy & Son.
