The Bus Users Group is holding a public meeting at the weekend to address a recent spate of issues plaguing the island’s bus service.

The meeting, which comes a month after the several routes and timetables were changed, aims to give people an opportunity to offer their feedback. It will take place in the Saints Bay Room at St Martin’s Community Centre 3pm on Saturday.

‘A lot of people are complaining,’ said BUG committee member Les Gallienne. ‘There’s all sorts of problems going on at the moment. It seems to be that, jointly, the States and Stagecoach are not doing enough to get to the bottom of them.’

Mr Gallienne highlighted frequent bus breakdowns, insufficient charging infrastructure for the electric fleet of buses, the delayed, or completely missed, posting of timetables, and also the replacement of numbered posts at the bus terminus with letters, which he says have left passengers confused.

The group has invited all of its members to attend the meeting, as well as would-be bus users, deputies and the media. It has also invited representatives from Stagecoach and the Environment & Infrastructure Committee to attend. It hopes that in doing so it will enable complaints to be raised directly with those responsible for the service, and consequently drive forward positive action to rectify the problems reported.

‘If we’re heard, maybe something will be done about it,’ said Mr Gallienne.

‘I’d hate for us to become a pressure group, but I think that that’s the way it’s heading, in a nice way, to put more pressure on these people to sort it out.’
