With the Guide Unit turning 80 years old, the Brownies 75 years, the Rainbows 30 years and the Rangers five years old, it will be an evening to remember and rejoice.

Hoping to bring the old and new together, all members – current and past – are invited to party and play, sharing skills and memories.

‘Hopefully it will expand across the generations and we’ll have lots of people there,’ said guide unit leader Debbie Robilliard.

‘For special birthdays like this, we like to push the boat out.

‘We’re very proud that there have been 80 years of fun, friendship and adventure at St Stephen's and are looking forward to celebrating with our current members. We’d also like to encourage past members of our units to come along and share their stories with us over tea and cake.’

The event will be at St Stephen’s Church garden on Friday 26 September from 6pm to 8pm, with extra parking available.

The numerous displays will include a skills table, showcasing techniques learnt through girl-guiding.

Guests will also be able to follow church mice around a history trail, explore crafts and play children’s games. The evening will draw to a close traditionally with songs and stories around a campfire.

‘It will be a step forward and back in time,’ said Mrs Robilliard.

‘For me, as a leader, it’s really encouraging to see all these young people still taking up these opportunities and challenges, but also giving them the chance to find their identity and give them adventures.

‘The more we can keep girl-guiding going, the more memories and experiences will be made, helping the girls grow and shine.’
